Trial date set in Weymouth rape case

A man from Weymouth has pleaded not guilty to a rape charge. Russell Tudor Jones is accused of attacking a woman in an alleyway in the Park District in February last year. The sixty three year old appeared at Winchester Crown Court and will stand trial in October. He has been released on conditional bail and must not contact the alleged victim.

A trial date has been set for a man charged in connection with an alleged rape in Weymouth.

Russell Tudor Jones, 63, of Corporation Road, appeared at Winchester Crown Court where he denied the allegation that he raped a woman in an alleyway linking Stanley Street, Derby Street and Queen Street in the Park District.

The incident is said to have taken place between around 9.15pm and 9.30pm on Sunday, 18 February 2024, with the case following an investigation by the Major Crime Investigation Team.

The court heard Jones was arrested and later issued with a postal requisition to attend Weymouth Magistrates’ Court in February, before the case was sent to the Crown Court for further proceedings.

He has now been released on conditional bail, with a requirement not to contact the alleged victim, and is due to stand trial at Winchester Crown Court on Monday, 19 October.
