A Dorset Police officer is due to appear in court charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. PC Scott Thorne, aged 40, is set to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 12. He has been charged following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) into an incident in Bournemouth.

The charge relates to an incident on July 30, 2024, when officers responded to a report at a hostel in Bournemouth. It concerns the force used during the arrest of a man at the hostel.

The IOPC began its investigation after Dorset Police submitted a mandatory conduct referral.

Once the investigation was completed in August 2025, a file of evidence was passed to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The CPS authorised a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in October 2025.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said the officer is currently on restricted duties.
