Dorset Police said officers were called to an address in Chickerell Road at 9.33am on 31 March following a report that a woman had been assaulted by a man at the property earlier that morning.
Police attended the scene shortly after the report was received and arrested a man on suspicion of assault while officers began gathering information about what happened at the address.
It is understood that the man who was arrested and the woman involved are known to each other, although no further details about the circumstances of the incident have been released at this stage.
A Dorset Police spokesperson confirmed officers were called following the report of the assault and said a man had been arrested on suspicion of the offence.
The spokesperson added that the man and the woman involved are known to each other and enquiries into the incident are continuing.
