“Seagull Patrol Team” planned for Weymouth seafront

Visitors enjoying fish and chips in Weymouth may soon have some unexpected help protecting their lunch.

Local officials have announced plans to introduce a “Seagull Patrol Team” along the seafront to tackle the town’s famously bold seagulls.

The plan involves trained birds of prey flying above the promenade near Weymouth Beach, encouraging seagulls to stay away from tourists’ food.

Under the proposal:

• Falconers would patrol the beach each day
• Hawks would circle above the promenade
• Signs would warn visitors that a “Seagull Control Zone” is in operation

A spokesperson for the town council said the system would help visitors enjoy their meals without unexpected aerial attacks.

“Our seagulls are very determined. This patrol will make sure fish and chips reach their intended destination.”

Several tourists said they welcomed the idea after experiencing food-snatching gulls during previous visits.
