A popular open-water swimming programme, Couch to Bay, is set to return this year, offering swimmers of all levels the chance to challenge themselves in the waters of Weymouth Bay.
Designed for everyone from relative newcomers to regular swimmers, Couch to Bay aims to build confidence, stamina and technique in the sea. The programme is suitable for any swimmer who can comfortably swim 100 metres in a pool and feels confident being out of their depth.
Through regular, structured group sessions held in Weymouth Bay, participants work towards a personal goal — whether that’s swimming a mile, half a bay, a full bay or even further. The focus is on gradual progress, skill-building and enjoyment, rather than competition.
Swimmers are supported throughout by a fully qualified coach, ensuring both safety and encouragement at every stage. Unlike many endurance events, Couch to Bay removes the pressure of deadlines or time limits, allowing participants to progress at their own pace.
Group sessions are expected to begin sometime in April, with the exact start date dependent on water temperature, weather conditions and available daylight.
Places on the programme are limited. Anyone interested in securing a spot or finding out more is encouraged to get in touch by message or by emailing aquaticharriet@gmail.com.
