Two people have appeared in court after police seized several suspected XL Bullies during a warrant on Portland.
Dorset Police says officers from the Portland Neighbourhood Policing Team and the force dog unit carried out a warrant at an address on Portland in August 2025 following reports banned breed dogs were being kept and bred there.
Police located three adult dogs and three puppies. Two of the adult dogs and all of the puppies were seized on suspicion they were banned breeds under the Dangerous Dogs Act, namely XL Bullies.
A 44-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man appeared at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 11 May 2026, where they admitted charges of possessing or having custody of a fighting dog.
Both were ordered to pay £750 each towards kennelling costs.
The woman was also given a restraining order limiting her to one dog at her address for the next two years.
Billy Taylor said the presence of banned breeds had caused concern in the local community and officers acted quickly to remove the dogs and bring those responsible before the courts.
