Weymouth to London Trains Disrupted Until Friday Over Signalling Fault

Train services between Weymouth and London Waterloo are set to remain disrupted until Friday due to ongoing signalling problems.

South Western Railway (SWR) has confirmed that a fault with signalling equipment between Moreton railway station and Dorchester South railway station is unlikely to be resolved until later this week.

The issue began this morning and has led to cancellations between Weymouth railway station and Dorchester South, with only one train per hour currently operating between the two stations. Some services travelling towards Weymouth are also experiencing delays of up to 20 minutes.

Engineers are working at the site and will continue repairs overnight once daily services have finished, in an effort to reduce disruption for passengers. Repairs are expected to be completed by Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: “Engineers are on site and are working towards rectifying the fault. They will be carrying out works each night (until Saturday morning) once service has finished for the day to minimise the impact to customers.

“Their current estimation is that this issue will be resolved by the end of service on Friday, February 27.”

As a result of the disruption, an hourly service will operate between Poole railway station and Weymouth in both directions. One train per hour that would normally run between London Waterloo station and Weymouth will instead start and terminate at Bournemouth railway station.

Passengers are advised that tickets will be accepted at no extra cost on alternative services while the disruption continues.
