Residents in Weymouth are being invited to a free talk about swifts and how to help protect them. The event aims to raise awareness of the bird’s declining numbers.
Residents in Weymouth are being invited to learn more about one of the UK’s most iconic birds.
A free community talk about swifts will take place at the New Town Hall tomorrow, focusing on how local action can help reverse their decline.
The event is being supported by Weymouth Town Council in partnership with the RSPB South Dorset Local Group.
Local expert Tony Dobbs will lead the session, explaining why swift numbers are falling and what practical steps people can take to help.
Swifts have seen significant declines in recent years, largely due to habitat loss and fewer nesting sites.
Attendees will be able to sign up for free nest boxes, volunteer for surveys and learn how to spot and record the birds locally.
Organisers say the event is open to all and highlights the importance of community involvement in protecting local wildlife.
The event will take place on Tuesday 28th April at 7pm in the Council Chamber at the New Town Hall on Commercial Road, Weymouth (DT4 8NG).
