Weymouth’s lifeboat station is set for a major upgrade. Crews will temporarily relocate while work takes place to modernise the historic site.
RNLI in Weymouth has announced a major refurbishment of its lifeboat station on Nothe Parade.
The station, which dates back to 1869, will receive a two-storey extension along with improved training, office and changing facilities.
Plans also include better accessibility and energy efficiency upgrades to the historic building.
Work is due to begin in May, with volunteer crews relocating temporarily to the Old Harbour Dive Centre to maintain lifesaving services.
Coxswain Andy Sargeant says the improvements will help meet modern demands while preserving the station’s heritage.
Funding will come from a mix of fundraising, grants and donations, with local supporters encouraged to get involved.
