A sold-out crowd gathered in Langton Herring on Saturday for the annual Chesil Rocks Picnic & Pimms event, raising thousands of pounds for the Dorset branch of Samaritans.

Around 100 people attended the popular fundraising event, held in the grounds of Higher Farmhouse, where an afternoon of live music, food, drinks and community spirit helped support the Weymouth-based charity.

Although the day began under a blanket of mist, conditions soon improved, with warm sunshine providing the perfect backdrop for the event.

Organised by Tim and Hilary Warren, the fundraiser showcased a talented line-up of local performers, all either from Langton Herring or with strong connections to the village. Entertainment was provided by Martin, the Langton Herring Community Choir led by musical director Dave Burles, Grahame Hill, Jem and Ian, the Portesham Ukulele Band featuring Sam Brown, the Golden Geckos and Macaela.

Guests enjoyed a range of refreshments throughout the afternoon, including cream teas prepared by Samaritans volunteers, food from Big Bun Little Bun Catering and a well-stocked bar serving rum punch made to an authentic Caribbean family recipe, alongside Pimms, Prosecco and other drinks. Prosecco proved particularly popular and sold out during the event.

Visitors also had the opportunity to take part in Nordic walking sessions around the gardens with Alexa Tilly of Nordic Dorset.

While final totals are still being calculated, organisers estimate that this year’s event will raise at least £3,000 for the Dorset branch of Samaritans.

Tim and Hilary Warren said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a success. From those who donated, to the performers and volunteers and to those who bought tickets and supported the raffle, every contribution helped create a wonderful atmosphere and raise vital funds for Samaritans.

“It was a fantastic example of what can be achieved when a community comes together.”

The event continues the fundraising work of Chesil Rocks, which has raised well over £130,000 for Samaritans since it was established.
