A Weymouth food business is at risk of losing its licence.
The Home Office immigration enforcement team has called for a review of the Premises Licence for the Surfside Diner in New Street because of illegal working at the premises – if proven, a breach of the crime and disorder conditions of the licence.
The business is short distance from the seafront and an immediate neighbour to the town’s Wiggle strip club.
In a submission to Dorset Council, which will hear the evidence, the Home Office names Mr Bezar Suleman Ismail as the Premises Licence holder for the Surfside Diner.
Council records show that he has held that position since January 2024, with licences in other names dating back to 2013. The current licence allows the business to trade until 5am every day.
Public comment on the licence review remain open until June 26 via the Dorset Council licensing section on its website.
The most likely outcome is that a formal review will be held by a panel of councillors later in the year. Depending on the nature of the evidence from the Home Office and from the business at least part of the hearing is likely to be held in public at County Hall, Dorchester – usually also streamed online.
The choices available to the panel include revoking the licence completely, changing some of the conditions, or letting the current licence and its conditions continue.
